Deliver the annual notice to every unit asking whether a child lives there (window guards for children 10 and under; lead paint for children under 6 in pre-1960 buildings), then follow up on units that don't return it by mid-February. Agency page

Residential buildings with three or more units, and one- and two-family homes the owner doesn't occupy, register with HPD every year ($13 fee). An unregistered building can't start a nonpayment case in Housing Court and faces civil penalties. Agency page

Buildings with gas piping (except one- and two-family homes) need a periodic gas piping inspection by a licensed master plumber every four years. Community district 5 is on the 2029 cycle; certification is filed with DOB after the inspection. Buildings with no gas piping file a certification instead. Agency page
